Online freshman journals appear forward many university Web sites. pupil blogs offer prospective students and parents a realistic peek into a school's improvement in ways that viewbooks and pamphlets simply can't.

Christina Henderson's online journal of her freshman year at Furman University in Greenville, SC repeated her bonding with new dorm-mates, "stocusing" (a combination of studying and focusing) for exams, and getting involved and making her mark in succession campus. "The goal for each entrance has basically been to make known what's going on at Furman between the sides of the eyes of a freshman, unscripted, unrehearsed," Henderson says.

A political science major, she is common of six students whose reports propounded what she calls "a pure view of what goes forward at Furman." About 30.000 population logged on every week to read Furman's freshman journals, according to The Christian Science Monitor,
